BILL BELICHICK: GAME PLANNING FOR EAGLES CENTER JASON KELCE ‘DROVE ME CRAZY’

One thing Bill Belichick appreciates is studying and coaching against the greats of the game, and retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is on that list.

In a recent sit-down with Kelce and ex-Eagles defensive assistant Matt Patricia for Underdog Media’s Coach with Bill Belichick show, the future Hall of Fame coach vented some frustrations while reliving attempts to scheme for Kelce and Philly’s dynamic offensive line.

“We have what we call go-to guys, and usually that’s a receiver or a tight end like Ertz, somebody like that,” Belichick said, before turning toward Kelce. “We played you — Kelce’s a go-to guy. And I would say, ‘Do not let him pull. … I don’t want to see him leading somebody outside the numbers out there. Cover him up. Get on him. And if he pulls, grab him!’

“You still pulled,” Belichick conceded with a laugh. “It drove me crazy.”

The praise was clearly appreciated and reciprocated by Kelce, who’s a future Hall of Famer in his own right. The 36-year-old spent his entire 13-year career with Philadelphia. He was the leader of one of the NFL's best offensive lines during his tenure and was an iron man, appearing in 193 of 211 regular season games.

Undeniably one of the best centers in football history, Kelce was been named a first-team All-Pro six times. He's one of just five offensive linemen to achieve that honor, joining Hall of Famers Jim Otto, Bulldog Turner, Dermotti Dawson and Jim Ringo. The Sporting News took a closer look on his decision to retire from the NFL here.
