FREE PINT FOR EVERY GOAL BACKFIRES FOR PUB AFTER FOREST 7-0 WIN

A pub scored an own goal with a promotion offering a free pint every time Nottingham Forest scored - only for the Premier League club to win 7-0.

The Gedling Inn, in Nottingham, gave away almost 300 drinks after Nuno Espirito Santo's men went goal-crazy against Brighton on Saturday.

The Seagulls were put to the sword - with Forest's star striker Chris Wood scoring a hat-trick.

Landlady Beccy Webster, 33, came up with the promotion idea hours before kick-off to highlight that the pub had started screening Premier League matches.

And she might have thought she had little to lose after the Nottingham club found itself on the wrong end of a 5-0 thumping the previous weekend.

It was Forest's biggest league win since a 7-0 victory over Chelsea in the top flight in April 1991.

While Beccy said she did say she was relieved when the final whistle blew she was happy to get behind the team.

She said: 'When the final whistle went, I just said 'phew'. Never in my wildest dreams did we imagine they'd score seven goals.

'I was upstairs feeding my baby when I heard the first goal go in, then the second quickly afterwards, and I had just come downstairs when the third went in - I thought 'here we go'.

It was Forest's biggest league win since a 7-0 victory over Chelsea in the top flight in April 1991.

And despite handing out free drinks costing over £1,000, Beccy said it was still 'a good day'.

'People were singing, and people were respectful with the offer,' she explained.

'Lots of people were still buying drinks, people stayed for food, and lots of people have been asking if we'll be having any more offers on.

'It's just nice to get behind the team - it's good for the whole city, they're putting us on the map.

'We're thinking about what offers we can do next - but I am not sure we'll ever top the drama of that.'

People have reacted to the promotion on social media, local Felix Hogg said: 'What a pub - they kept to their word.'

Colin Mitton added: 'There was a good few pints flowing.'

And Kayleigh Smith added: 'Well done to the landlady for sticking to it - bet there were a lot of sore heads on Sunday.'

One person said: 'We all need to share this in order to get the owner more punters in for the future. Not necessarily for a repeat offer of free drinks, although seven goals are not the norm so could consider continuing'.

Another added: 'Fair play to the gaffer for sticking to it did say free pint hopefully for him a lot of wine and spirit drinkers'.
